Old Sukhothai
I went to the old city, but I ended up taking a tuk-tuk rather than renting a bike. The old city was interesting - the buildings at Sukhothai are in a greater state of ruin than those in Aytuthaya. They gardens around the entire old city area, which is very large, are very nice too.
My tuk-tuk driver couldn't speak a word of English but I was able to communicate with him enough to negotiate the fare to Old Sukhothai and back. He drove me around the old city and stopped at each of the temples. Sometimes while I was off looking at one of the temples, he'd go walking through the gardens and collect food. When I came back from the first temple, he had a kind of coconut that he called "ma phow". On another occasion he'd collected a plastic bag full of "ma kham biaw", which looked kind of like broad-bean pods, and tasted sour (I tried some). After I tried the ma kham biaw, he held up a plastic bag of snails that he'd collected from one of the ornamental ponds. When I saw it I quickly said "Mai chawp! Mai chawp!" (no like! no like!) but then he explained that he was going to take them home and boil them, and that they tasted great. I'm sure they did.
