Back to Surat

I left Hat Railay yesterday and went back to Krabi town. I checked back into the City Hotel, where I spent my one night in Krabi about a week ago.

After I'd checked in and cooled off for a while, I went for a walk and found a restaurant / Internet Cafe / travel agency. There's quite a few of these places in the heavily touristed areas like Krabi. There I looked up the date for the next full moon party in Koh Phang Ngan, booked a bus / ferry ticket, ate some curry and rice, and watched CNN for a while.

Now I'm on the bus from Krabi to Suratthani. I was in Surat a month ago, when I went to Koh Samui. Actually, the ferry that will take me to Koh Phang Ngan will probably stop on the way at Na Thon, the main port in Koh Samui.

I'm going to Koh Phang Ngan for the full moon party. For several years now, there's been a party at Hat Rin Nok on Koh Phang Ngan at every full moon. The next one is on Wednesday, October 31st. The last one was on October 2nd. I was on a train somewhere south of Bangkok at that time.

I've read plenty about the full moon party in my guide book, and on the Internet, but I'm not sure how it's going to be. It could be great, or it could be crap. All the Thai's that I've talked to about it say they hate it. What I know so far is that it's going to be packed with farangs (westerners), there's going to be DJ's (hopefully good ones) and you get to dance on the beach until sunrise. Even if it turns out to be crap, Koh Phang Ngan is cheap, and there's nice beaches, and forests inland to see.
