First impressions of Koh Phang Ngan

I've made it to Koh Phang Ngan. The bus left Krabi at 11am, and after two bus rides, a two hour ferry ride, a songthaew trip from the port town of Thong Sala to Hat Rin, and a very long walk looking for accomodation, I'm finally sitting on a bed under a fan.

Koh Phang Ngan is actually quite a big island, but most of the tourism is concentrated in Hat Rin Nok (inner Rin beach) and Hat Rin Nai (outer Rin beach) which run along the two sides of a cape that sticks out from the island's south coast. I'm staying about a 5 minute walk from Hat Rin Nok. This is also referred to as sunrise beach, and it's where the full moon party is held.

When I first got off the songthaew, I walked all the way to the beach. It's quite pretty at night, with all the different colored lights from the various pubs, inn's and nightclubs along the edge of the sand. From there I gradually worked my way away from the beach, checking all the guesthouses and bungalows on the way for rooms. All the accomodation near the beach was full. It took me about an hour of wandering (with my very heavy pack) to find a place. As usually happens, I have no idea what the name of the place is - I can check-in in my sleep nowadays. The room is very very basic, but it's also quite cheap at 150 baht, or about $AUD6.81 per night.

My plan for the rest of this evening is to have a shower and put on some clean clothes, and then go for a walk. I haven't eaten a meal for quite a few hours, so I'll probably gin khao (eat rice) too.
